Tricks to watch out for.

Council Tax Bailiffs

Letting the Bailiffs in:

Do I Have To Let The Bailiffs In? - NO, Not unless you

want to - and you'd have to be certifiable to want to

 do that.

IF THE BAILIFFS HAVE NOT BEEN INTO YOUR HOME

BEFORE TO COLLECT THIS DEBT, THEY HAVE NO

 RIGHT TO COME IN.

THEY CANNOT BREAK IN.

But they can enter through an open window or door.

Watch out for this scam

I have several friends who claim that they have been

cheated out of their day in court and therefore a fair
trial.  The way this happens is as follows;
They receive a summons in the mail that states that they are to
attend before the magistrates court to explain why they
are in arrears with their council tax payments.
When they arrive at the court house they find that there
is a representative from their local council in attendance to
meet them and discuss the terms of a negotiated settlement.
They agree to pay what they can afford to settle the debt and sign
a document to that effect.  When asked if they still have to go
before the judge to explain their predicament, the representative
replies "No, now that we have an agreement, you don't have to
appear".  So with a sigh of relief they head out of the building
and home.  Little do they know that, the representative now goes
before the court and gets the judge to issue a "Liability Order", in their absence.  Now they are on the hook for the full amount of
the council tax and the council is at liberty to send in the bailiffs
to collect the full amount by seizing and removing their goods.
Effectively they have been cheated out of their day in court and with very little effort.  This practice is totally unlawful and violates
their rights to a fair trial, pursuant to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Let's hear your comments if this has happened to you.
